Regal Exchange of Gifts for Electricity

The Queen and the Pope met yesterday in Rome and exchanged gifts.

The BBC newsreader announced that the Queen gave the Pope a haunch of venison, some biscuits and a bottle of scotch.

I was convinced the newsreader was going to say that the Pope presented the Queen with the magical finger bone of a saint, or some such grisly Catholic relic.

Just done a quick annual calculation of our electricity use and generation with the solar PV - our total cost for electricity (bearing in mind we are 100% electric and are considered high users) is £50. Very pleased with the solar generation.

If you take the write down period and the capital cost of the installation into account then what is the true cost?

Roger - hard to say, as I don't know what percentage of the generated electricity we are using; however, given we both work from home, I'd say about 30~40%, bearing on mind that maximum usage is at night, when we're not generating. That said, I consider the £12k outlay as a sunk cost, as it adds to the value of the house - well, for at least the next 24 years.

...and don't forget I'm on the £.43 feed-in tariff. Without that, it wouldn't be viable, unless I was storing the electricity, but that in itself means a set of new batteries every 5 years or so.
